The need of an institution for higher education at
Hojai was in fact, felt during early 1960's. The
pioneers of this noble task of establishing a college at
Hojai, once the granary of Assam, had to face
insurmountable hurdles on several fronts: It was but for
the relentless and untiring efforts of a band of
dedicated workers and the patronisation of all concerned
that this Alma Mater could come into being in 1964 with
only 126 students in PU. (Arts). Since its inception
this college has been guided by the |
| concepts of
excellence in academic and co-curricular aspects of
students' life under the able guidance of a host of
dedicated teachers. The college enjoys the reputation of
being a truly cosmopolitan institution of learning.
During the span of 36 years this institution promoted
the cause of higher collegiate education with
meritorious service to the society and despite the fact
that it is still fed by the students of average merit.
It has to its credit a good number of meritorious
students who could ultimately prove their worth in
different spheres of their professional career
particularly in both Central and Civil Services. The
growth of an institution is a matter of gradualism, and
it is through this process that the college could, by
now, rise to the height of having about 1500 students
with instructional facilities in all the three faculties
viz. Arts. Science and Commerce. The college caters to
the need of higher education not only ofthe
south-eastern part of Nagaon, but of adjoining tribal
areas of Karbi Anglong District also. It is a
Provincialised College now.
